2018 was decidedly one of the better years for Hindi cinema, where movies of different genres delighted the audience, and also raised our expectations about the standard of movies that Bollywood can produce.
Here are 05 movies that we are excited for in 2019:
1. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga
Starring Sonam Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles, the hilariously adorable trailer already has us excitedly waiting for the movie to drop. The coming-of-age romantic drama is written by Gazal Dhaliwal (co-writer for Qarib Qarib Singlle and Lipstick Under My Burkha ), andappears to be a same-sex love story (yay 2019!). The movie releases on February 1, 2019.
2. Uri: The Surgical Strike
Based on the 2016 surgical strikes by the Indian Army, and starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam in the lead, this is the first major motion movie releasing in 2019, on January 11. And an action-packed trailer showcasing Vicky Kaushal in a whole different avatar gives us something to look forward to.
3 . Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi
This Kangana Ranautstarrer movie is an action-packed historical biopic on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai. Based on an extraordinary subject, we hopeit stays true to the spirit of the original rebellion that Rani Laxmi Bai led. The film releases on January 25.
4. Brahmastra
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, Brahmastra is a fantasy movie and the first part of an expected trilogy. While Bollywood's tryst with fantasy movies has not always been successful, the director-actor combination definitely has us looking for out for this one.
5. Gully Boy
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, and starring Ranveer Singh and Ali Bhatt in lead roles, Gully Boy is a musical drama based on the life of Mumbai street rappers. Both, the lead pair that'll come together for the first time on screen and the subject of the movie, have us waiting for the trailer excitedly. The movie will release on February 14.
